What happens to a website after launch
Why launch is the beginning rather than the finish line, and what support a site needs so it doesn’t age.
Many people treat a website as a one-off purchase: build it, launch it, forget it. But a website is more like a car than a painting on the wall. Without maintenance it gradually stops running.
What needs attention
- Updates. Libraries and frameworks regularly get security fixes. Without them the site becomes vulnerable.
- Backups. If something breaks or someone accidentally deletes a page, a backup lets you restore everything in minutes.
- Monitoring. An automatic availability check alerts you to an outage before clients write to you about it.
- Domain and certificate. An expired domain or SSL certificate is one of the most frustrating reasons a site suddenly “disappears”.
What’s worth improving
- Content. Up-to-date prices, new services, fresh case studies and reviews.
- Analytics. See where visitors come from and where they leave, and improve exactly those spots.
- Speed. Over time new scripts and images get added, and the site slows down.
Budget for support from the start. Regular maintenance costs far less than an emergency recovery.
