Why website speed is money

How slow loading drives clients away, and what you can check yourself in five minutes.

Visitors never see your code, but they notice immediately when a site is “thinking”. Every extra second of waiting means people closing the tab and going to a competitor.

Why it matters

  • Users leave. On mobile data, a slow page often never gets to show what you offer.
  • Search engines take speed into account. Google scores sites by Core Web Vitals, and slow pages lose out in results.
  • Ads get more expensive. You pay for the click, but the person didn’t wait for the page to load.

How to check it yourself

Open PageSpeed Insights, paste your site’s address and look at the mobile results. Pay attention to LCP: the main block of the page should appear in under 2.5 seconds.

What slows sites down most often

  1. Heavy images uploaded straight from the camera.
  2. Unneeded scripts: widgets, chats and trackers nobody has used in ages.
  3. Slow hosting with no caching.

Start with images: compression and modern formats often give the biggest speed gain for the least effort.
